IC:

Character name: Applejack
Fandom: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Timeline: Episode 25
Age: Never explicitly stated, but it’s accepted the ponies are in their teens.

~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths:

Applejack is an earth pony, so she doesn’t get no fancy abilities like flying or magic. Instead, having grown up on a farm, most of her skills tie into her daily work. She’s debatably the most athletic of the group (at least tied with Rainbow Dash there), with plenty of strength and dexterity one develops when working the fields. She’s incredibly skilled with a lasso, able to perform some really impressive tricks as well as use it effectively. She’s an accomplished herder, which may or may not come in handy but is good to know for reference sake. She’s also really good at “applebucking,” aka knocking down apples from the trees for harvesting. While most ponies take a few kicks, Applejack can usually knock down a whole trees worth of apples with just the one kick, even when she’s sleep deprived.

Not exactly having much to do with the farm, Applejack is also a really good baker. Though most of her goods usually boil down to “apple something.”

How would they use their abilities?:

They don’t call her the most dependable pony in Ponyville for nothing. Applejack’s always willing to help out someone who needs it. Her skills are very practical, so she’s all the likely to use them without really thinking about it.

Appearance:

Basically, Applejack’s an orange pony. Well, more of an amber-orange color, but who needs the technicality. Her eyes are green, and both her mane and tail are a very light yellow and kept tied in low pony tails. She’s always seen wearing a light brown Stetson hat, taken off only when she’s sleeping. There’s three freckles on each of her cheeks (that are prone to animation flubs). Applejack’s cutie mark is three red apples, which really isn’t surprising when looking at the rest of her family who all (excluding Apple Bloom) have apple-related cutie marks.

Background:

Wait, there’s a story to this show?

Well, yes, for the first two episodes anyway. An awful long time ago, back when Equestria was first created, two princesses ruled the lands: Princess Celestia, the older sister that raised the sun in the morning, and Princess Luna, who brought the night. Seeing that the ponies didn’t appreciate her beautiful night as they did the day, Luna became increasingly jealous of her sister. Her bitterness eventually drove Luna to becoming Nightmare Moon, and prevented Celestia from raising the day ever again. Celestia was able to finally overpower Nightmare Moon with the Elements of Harmony, and with a heavy heart, banished her sister to the moon. As years went by, the story became nothing more than a fairy tale about the Mare in the Moon.

Cut to one thousand years later, where one pony doesn’t believe the fairy tale is just a fairy tale. In her studies, Twilight Sparkle, a unicorn student of Princess Celestia, learned that Nightmare Moon would be able to break free and bring eternal night on the longest day of the thousandth year, which happened to be the summer solstice the very next day. Hoping to bring this to Celestia’s attention, Twilight was instead sent to Ponyville along with Spike, her pet dragon, to check over the progress of the Summer Sun Celebration and to make some friends.

Which is where Applejack finally comes in. Twilight and Spike, checking on the food preparation for the festival, arrived at Sweet Apple Acres to see Applejack harvesting some apples. Applejack heartily greeted Twilight and introduced her to the rather extensive Apple family (her immediate family being Granny Smith, her brother Big Machintosh, and her little sister Apple Bloom), having Twilight sample some of the food they were working on. After being stuffed to her breaking point, Twilight moved on to meet the rest of the main cast: Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, and Rarity.

Later, as the whole town awaited Princess Celestia’s arrival, it turned out that Twilight was right about the Mare in the Moon and Nightmare Moon appeared to Ponyville. Knowing only the Elements of Harmony can stop Nightmare Moon, Twilight, along with the other ponies, venture through the Everfree forest and find the Elements in some old ruins. The ponies are nearly stopped by Nightmare Moon, but by unlocking the powers of the Elements that were inside each of the ponies (Pinkie Pie as Laughter, Rainbow Dash as Loyalty, Rarity as Generosity, Fluttershy as Kindness, Applejack as Honesty, and Twilight Sparkle as Magic) the ponies were able to defeat Nightmare Moon, who had reverted back to Princess Luna.

And thus the day was saved!

Twilight Sparkle decided to stay In Ponyville and from then on the show is pretty much one shot shenanigans, with a recurring plot point being the Grand Galloping Gala that I’m taking Applejack before.

But there is one I want to get into because this is backstory for her. Episode 23, The Cutie Mark Chronicles, revealed how Applejack got her cutie mark. You see, the cutie mark is a coming of age symbol that magically appears on all ponies when they discover what their special talents are. Applejack was actually the last of her class to receive her mark, something that happens to run in the Apple family for one reason or another. Back to the story: well, having spent her life living on the farm, was actually really interested in the lives of the high society folks in the big city. Packing a bag and leaving her farm, she actually went to the big city and stayed with her Aunt and Uncle Orange for a short while. It turned out the life wasn’t exactly how she thought it would be; with most of the other ponies she met being stuck up and snooty. Most times she just felt embarrassed and awful homesick. Watching the sun rising one morning, fate would have Applejack be witness to a brilliant rainbow that seemed to lead back home to Ponyville. (Years later, it was revealed the rainbow was actually a Sonic Rainboom that Rainbow Dash pulled off in a race. So the ponies were connected long before they even met.) So she left the city and ran straight back home, realizing the farm was where she was meant to be. Hugging Granny Smith, Applejack’s cutie mark appeared, and she’s been tending to the farm ever since.

Personality:

Good ol’ dependable Applejack. She really is one of the best friends a pony can ask for.

Growing up on the farm really shapes a lot of who Applejack is: she’s hardworking, dependable, resourceful, proud, easygoing, and likely the most down-to-earth out of the group of friends. Applejack holds honesty and politeness in high regard, hence her connection to the Element of Honesty: she’s the last person to stoop to lying, which is a good thing because she’s pretty awful at even telling white lies. As stated before, she has no problem lending a helping hand-er hoof to anyone who asks, and she does so without asking for much in return.

Though, to her determent, this lends itself to making her a bit headstrong when it comes to doing things on her own. For example, in Applebucking Season, Applejack exhausts herself working on the apple harvest while big Machintosh is injured, and she still keeps her word to her friends who asked favors of her. Of course, none of these favors pan out too well because Applejack is too tired to be of any proper help. Only at the end, after a good old talking to from Twilight, does Applejack finally break down and asks her friends to help her. Since then, Applejack's been a lot better at accepting help, though she still tends to bite off more than she can chew.

Much to the aversion of some ponies(coughRaritycough), Applejack’s not afraid to get her hooves dirty to get the job done. In fact, she really had no reservations about getting dirty or messy, and often steers clear of most things either too girly or “frou-frou,” having grown out of that phase from her childhood. She tends to see things in the bigger picture, but sometimes misses the little details.

She’s very kind and considerate…to an extent. It really depends on the person –er pony she’s dealing with. With Fluttershy, Applejack has the patience of a saint and goes out of her way to try and calm her down. Same usually goes for Pinkie Pie and her Pinky Pie-ness, which Applejack’s just come to accept over the years. However, Applejack’s hot temper usually flares when dealing with either rude or aggressive behavior (see Rarity and Rainbow Dash), which Applejack has no problem returning the favor. At Twilight Sparkle’s sleepover, she and Rarity nearly ruined the night with their feuding. And then in Fall Weather Friends, what should have been a friendly competition between Applejack and Rainbow Dash quickly degraded to a mess as soon as Rainbow Dash started cheating.

Have you read up on how the game works?: The Guide plugin is called Flaming Ferret, and ways to earn money includes missions, odd-jobs, and begging.

[Okay, all that random texting can’t be good for whoever’s Guide is obviously being keypounded on. The video clicks on and off a few times, not really getting a good picture of the owner just yet.]

[Great, now the audio’s bugging.]

Hey, can- [bzzt] -ny hear- [bzzt] -there? Gran- [bzzt] -ith? Big Machin- [bzzt] -ple Bloom? Twi- [bzzt] -uttershy? Pinkie- [bzzt] -inbow? Rarity? It’s- [bzzt] -plejack.

[The video comes back on again, thought it’s entirely out of focus. There’s really only a blob of orange, but anyone who knows her can immediately tell from her voice.]

Dagnabit! Why won’t this thingamajig just go and work properly fer five minutes?

[The video finally focuses on- a pony. Do not adjust your dials ladies and gents, you are not seeing things. Applejack stops pounding to see she’s finally made some progress on working her Guide. Not really progress that go and makes her hop in joy. Instead, she looks more annoyed that she just wasted her time on this.]

What in tarnation are you doin’ Applejack, messin’ with this here toy? I ain’t got the time fer all this foolin’ around. I gotta find somepony and get me a straight answer ‘bout what exactly’s goin’ on ‘round here.

3rd person sample:

Applejack didn’t like this place already. It just didn’t feel right, what with all the cameras, sighing doors, and other assorted oddities. Too clean. Too white. Too…not natural. Times she had to wonder if she went and fallen into one of Rarity’s dreams, but then Rarity wouldn’t go dreaming up some unpleasing alien things from beyond the stars to ruin all her clean white walls.

Not settled on just waiting around for something to happen, Applejack walked up and down the repeating hallways. Not even kidding on the repeating part, most of these looked pretty much cloned from one another. It was going to be some pain when it came to actually finding her way back to where she was going to be living. That didn’t even seem to matter all that much right at the moment.

Heaving a sigh, Applejack once again lost track on the number of turns she’s made already. Hitting another dead end, Applejack noticed something before she went to turn around again: something…actually green. Wandering over for curiosity’s sake, the pony somehow ended up at what looked like a park. While it was something not white for the first time since being here, there was definitely something…off here. It wasn’t the grass or the dirt, though it did feel a little on the fakey side.

Not a single apple tree in sight.

Homesickness tends to hit a pony hard, doesn’t it?
